Free RBT Practice Exam 2026: 85-Question Full Mock Test
Practice the same way you will test. This free RBT practice exam has 85 questions on a 90-minute timer, the same length as the real Registered Behavior Technician exam, and it covers all six domains of the BACB RBT Test Content Outline (3rd edition).

Finished? Here’s Your Next Step
Pick your score to see what to do next.
Not there yet? Good news: you found out before test day.
Most points are lost in 1 or 2 weak domains, not everywhere. Find yours and fix it first.
You’re close. One weak domain could still cost you the exam.
Don’t retake the same test. Fix the domain you missed most, then check yourself on a different exam.
Great score. Now make sure it holds on new questions.
Practice scores often run higher than the real exam. Test yourself somewhere new and learn exactly what test day looks like.
Got a question wrong? Scroll up and check the correct answer before you move on. That is where most of the learning happens.
What Is an RBT Practice Exam?
An RBT practice exam is a timed set of multiple-choice questions that copies the real Registered Behavior Technician exam. The real test has 85 questions in 90 minutes, and 75 of them are scored. People also call it an RBT practice test or RBT mock exam. The point is the same: find your weak spots before test day, not on it.
The RBT credential is not a small club anymore. The BACB counted more than 246,000 RBTs at the end of 2025, and each of them had to pass the RBT exam. In 2025, 75% of first-time candidates passed, but only 38% of people retaking it did, according to the BACB annual data. Passing the first time is much easier than coming back, which is why a full-length practice run matters.
How This RBT Mock Exam Compares to the Real Test
A practice test only helps if it feels like the real thing. Here is how this RBT mock exam lines up with the real one, using the numbers in the BACB’s own RBT Handbook:
| Real RBT exam | This practice exam | |
|---|---|---|
| Questions | 85 (75 scored + 10 unscored pilot questions) | 85, and every one counts toward your score |
| Time | 90 minutes, which also covers the tutorial and terms screens | 90-minute timer |
| Format | Multiple choice, 4 options, 1 correct answer | Same |
| Where | In person at a Pearson VUE test center | Online, on any device |
| Your result | Pass or fail, shown at the test center | Percentage score plus every correct answer |
| Cost | $65 BACB application + $45 Pearson VUE exam (2026) | Free |
| Retakes | Up to 8 attempts in 12 months, 7 days apart | As many as you want |
If you searched for a Pearson VUE RBT practice exam, this is the same thing. The BACB writes the RBT exam and Pearson VUE only delivers it at its test centers, so what matters is practicing on the BACB’s content outline. The 10 unscored questions look exactly like the rest, so treat all 85 as if they count. Our guide on how many questions are on the RBT exam explains the scoring in more detail.

How to Pace 85 Questions in 90 Minutes
The 90 minutes on test day also cover a short tutorial and the terms screen, so your real answering time is a little less. The clock keeps running if you take a break, and the last 20 questions usually feel slower because you are tired. About one minute per question keeps you safe. Use these checkpoints while you take this full-length RBT practice exam:
| Checkpoint | Time used | If you are behind |
|---|---|---|
| Question 20 | About 20 minutes | Stop re-reading every answer choice |
| Question 45 | About 45 minutes | Pick your best answer and move on |
| Question 70 | About 70 minutes | Keep going, save review for the end |
| Question 85 | About 85 minutes | Use what is left to check flagged doubts |
Set it up like the test center: one sitting, a quiet room, no notes, no second tab. A score you earned with your notes open will look better than the real thing, and that is the kind of surprise you do not want on exam day.
How to Use This RBT Practice Exam: A 3-Step Plan
Taking the same test over and over mostly teaches you the answers, not the skills. Treat this page like an RBT exam simulator and use it in three steps:
- Step 1: Take one full-length run cold. All 85 questions, timer on, no notes. This is your honest baseline, and it shows which domains cost you the most points.
- Step 2: Fix the weakest domain first. Spend a few days on that domain only, with its quiz and study guide from the table below. One weak domain is usually worth more points than polishing three strong ones.
- Step 3: Re-test on different questions. Take the 75-question RBT practice test, then come back for a second full run of this RBT mock exam about a week later.
A timeline that works for most students: first full run three to four weeks before your test date, and the final one in your last week. That leaves time to fix what the first run shows you.
RBT Exam Domains: Where Your Points Come From
Every RBT practice exam question maps to one of six domains in the BACB outline. Some domains are worth almost twice as much as others, so a weak spot in a big domain hurts more. If you only have 15 minutes, practice one domain instead of the full exam:
| Domain | Real exam | Practice | Study |
|---|---|---|---|
| A. Data Collection and Graphing | 13 questions (17%) | Data collection quiz | Data collection study guide |
| B. Behavior Assessment | 8 questions (11%) | Behavior assessment quiz | Behavior assessment study guide |
| C. Behavior Acquisition Biggest | 19 questions (25%) | Behavior acquisition quiz | Behavior acquisition study guide |
| D. Behavior Reduction | 14 questions (19%) | Behavior reduction quiz | Behavior reduction study guide |
| E. Documentation and Reporting | 10 questions (13%) | Documentation quiz | Documentation study guide |
| F. Ethics | 11 questions (15%) | RBT ethics quiz | Ethics study guide |
Older study material still uses the 2nd edition names, like Measurement, Skill Acquisition, and Professional Conduct. The content overlaps a lot, but the 2026 exam follows the newer 3rd edition outline, which added tasks such as calculating data and reading trends.
What Your Practice Exam Score Means
A practice score is a guide, not a promise. The BACB does not publish a set number of correct answers needed to pass. It sets the passing point with a method called modified Angoff, and on test day you only see pass or fail. That makes your misses more useful than your total:
| Your score | What it usually means | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Below 70% | One or two domains are pulling you down | Practice your weakest domain, starting with behavior acquisition (the biggest) |
| 70% to 84% | Close, but a single weak domain can still sink you | Fix that domain, then try the 75-question RBT practice test for fresh questions |
| 85% or higher | Strong, as long as it holds on new questions | Confirm it on the 75-question test and read up on the RBT competency assessment |
Our rule of thumb: aim for 80% or higher in every domain before you book your exam date. That is our advice from reviewing how students score here, not a BACB rule.
Under 80% in any domain? Short, focused practice fixes it faster than retaking the full exam.
What Test Takers Say the Real RBT Exam Feels Like
People who sat the RBT exam in 2026 tend to describe the same things:
- Most questions are short work scenarios. You read what happened in a session and pick what the RBT should do, not just a definition.
- The right answer usually keeps you in your role. Options where the RBT changes the plan alone are rarely correct. Following the plan and telling your supervisor often is.
- Ethics shows up a lot. That fits the bigger Ethics domain in the 3rd edition (11 questions).
- It can feel harder than practice. Many say the real exam felt tougher than their practice scores suggested, which is why fresh questions matter before test day.
Every question in this RBT practice test is written in the same scenario style, so the reading and decision-making feel familiar when it counts. For a broader warm-up, the domain quizzes work as short sets of RBT practice questions you can finish in one sitting.
Try One Question: How RBT Scenario Questions Work
Most RBT practice questions on the real exam are small stories. Here is one written in the same style, with the thinking behind the answer:
During a session, a learner starts throwing materials. The behavior plan says to block and redirect. The learner’s parent, who is watching, asks the RBT to just ignore it today so the session stays calm. What should the RBT do?
A) Ignore it, because the parent asked
B) Follow the plan, then tell the supervisor about the parent’s request
C) Change the plan for today and note it in the session notes
D) End the session early
Answer: B. The RBT follows the written plan and passes the parent’s request to the supervisor, who is the one allowed to change it. A and C both have the RBT changing the plan alone, and D ignores the plan completely. On the real exam, answers that keep you inside your role and keep your supervisor informed are usually the safe pick.

RBT Practice Exam FAQs
Is this RBT practice exam really free?
Yes. All 85 questions are free, there is no account to create, and you can retake the exam as often as you like. The domain quizzes and the RBT study guide are free too.
How many questions are on the real RBT exam?
The real RBT exam has 85 multiple-choice questions and a 90-minute limit. Only 75 questions are scored. The other 10 are unscored pilot questions mixed in at random, so you cannot tell which ones they are.
Is the Pearson VUE RBT exam different from the BACB RBT exam?
No, it is the same exam. The BACB writes the RBT exam and sets the rules, and Pearson VUE runs the test centers where you take it. Any RBT mock exam built on the BACB 3rd edition outline prepares you for the Pearson VUE test.
What score should I get on an RBT practice test before booking the real exam?
The BACB does not publish a fixed passing number. As a safe target, we suggest 80% or higher in every domain, not just overall, before you book. A strong total can hide one weak domain.
Are these the official BACB exam questions?
No. The BACB does not release live exam questions. These questions are written to match the BACB RBT Test Content Outline (3rd ed.) in topic, weight and scenario style, so they practice the same skills the real exam checks.
