This is the real deal. It has 85 questions, just like the actual test at the Pearson VUE center. It includes 75 real questions and 10 extra practice questions mixed in. You get a 90-minute timer so you can practice your speed and never run out of time, plus deep explanations for every single question to show you exactly why an answer is right or wrong.
Full Length Mock RBT Practice Exam (No Explanations)
Want to test your raw skills without any help or hints? This version gives you the full 85 questions with a 90-minute timer, but it will not show you any answer explanations during or after the test. It is perfect for final-stage practice to see if you can handle the real exam pressure completely on your own.
75-Question RBT Practice Test (Free)
This test skips the 10 extra practice questions and gives you only the 75 questions that actually count toward your final grade. Use this to see your real score and check if you can hit the passing score of 200+.
Free RBT Exam Study Guide & Specifications
The official RBT exam is done on a computer. You have exactly 1.5 hours (90 minutes) to finish. All questions are multiple-choice. The best part? You will get your results immediately at the test center, either a simple “Pass” or a page showing what you need to fix.
Read the RBT study guide before or after a quiz. It explains the main exam topics in simple language. Master all 6 BACB domains—Data Collection, Behavior Assessment, Skill Acquisition, Behavior Reduction, Documentation, and Ethics. Review core concepts, avoid common traps, and pass with confidence.
2026 RBT Exam Domain Breakdown (3rd Edition)
The official board (BACB) has updated the rules to the 3rd Edition Test Content Outline (TCO). The old task list is gone. Now, your final score is based strictly on 75 scored questions spread across 6 updated domains. Some topics now have more questions and higher weightage than before. Our practice tests are 100% updated to match this exact official structure.
Domain A. Data Collection and Graphing
This domain makes up 17% of your exam and includes exactly 13 questions. It replaces the old measurement sections. You will be tested on how to prepare for tracking, using continuous or discontinuous measurement data, and updating simple line graphs correctly.
Domain B. Behavior Assessment
This section makes up 11% of the test and has 8 questions. It is all about how you help your supervising BCBA during assessments. You will get questions on preference assessments and how to record clear, objective baseline data.
Domain C. Behavior Acquisition
This is the biggest part of the entire exam! It makes up 25% of the test and contains 19 questions. It focuses completely on teaching new skills to clients. You will practice scenario questions about discrete trial training (DTT), naturalistic teaching, token systems, and chaining steps.
Domain D. Behavior Reduction
This domain covers 19% of the test and has 14 questions. It is all about safely stopping challenging or unsafe behaviors. You will practice how to implement behavior reduction plans using differential reinforcement rules like DRA, DRO, or DRI and crisis safety protocols.
Domain E. Documentation and Reporting
This section makes up 13% of your test and contains 10 questions. It checks your daily professional habits. You must show that you know how to write clean session notes, store records safely, and communicate correctly with your supervisor.
Domain F. Ethics
The official outline now simply calls this domain Ethics, and it holds a heavy 15% weight with 11 questions. This area focuses tightly on your professional conduct. You will learn how to protect client privacy, maintain strict professional boundaries, and avoid double relationships.

5 Most Common Mistakes Students Make on the RBT Exam
Many students do not fail because they are lazy. They struggle because they study the wrong way. These are the mistakes to avoid before you take your real test. We looked at research data from thousands of students to see where they lose easy points:
The real exam uses real-world stories and scenarios, not simple dictionary definitions.
Misunderstanding when a behavior starts and stops costs easy points.
Forgetting the legal rules behind clean, honest note-taking drops your score in Domain E.
Spending more than one minute on a hard question breaks your speed.
Over-studying your favorite topics while ignoring ethics or graphs makes your final score drop.
Why Students Struggle With the RBT Exam Content
The test is hard because it doesn’t just ask you to define words. It gives you stories. You have to choose the best action to take during a real client tantrum or crisis under a supervisor’s rules.
Common problems include:
reading the study guide but not testing recall
getting a low score and moving on too fast
memorizing answers without understanding the reason
skipping ethics because it feels like “common sense”
not practicing documentation and reporting questions
seeing the exam format for the first time on test day
Why Practice Before Your First RBT Exam Attempt Matters
The RBT exam is passable, but it still needs real preparation. BACB’s 2025 Annual Data Report shows that 109,341 first-time RBT candidates were tested, and the first-time pass rate was 75%. The same report shows that 54,674 retake candidates were tested, and the retake pass rate was 38%.
Sitting in a quiet test center can make you nervous. Practicing with a live timer helps calm your brain, speeds up your reading, and builds the mental stamina to handle 85 questions without getting tired.
Take a short quiz first.
Start small so you can quickly spot what you already know and what needs more review.
Review every missed answer.
Do not just check the correct option. Learn why the wrong answers were not the best choice.
Practice weak domains before taking the full 85-question exam.
Build confidence in weaker areas first, then move into full exam timing and pressure.
Do not only memorize answers. Learn why each answer is correct. That helps you answer new exam-style questions with more confidence.
How Much Time Do You Need to Prepare for the RBT Exam?
There is no perfect study timeline for every student. Some students need a few weeks. Some need more time because ABA terms, measurement rules, and ethics questions feel new.
A good goal is simple: study until you can explain why an answer is correct, not just memorize it.
Situation 1: You just finished your 40-hour training
Everything is fresh. You typically need just 7 to 10 days of practice tests to learn how the exam questions are written.
Situation 2: You know the basics but feel unsure
If you finished your course weeks ago, take 2 to 3 weeks. Do the small topic quizzes first, then move to the full exams.
Situation 3: Your official exam is very soon
If your test is in less than 48 hours, stop heavy reading. Take the 75-question test once, read the answers, and get a good night’s sleep.
Situation 4: You have already failed the exam once
Take a breath. Look at the score report from the center. Find your lowest topic, use our matching quiz, and rebuild that area over the next 14 days.
